Recycling centers are facilities in communities that accept recyclable materials such as paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, and metal in order to send them to other locations to be created into new products. Not only are items received at these centers, but in exchange, one can up a few dollars for these recyclables. From an early age, my children have been trained to recycle. They actually enjoy the outing and the funds we receive buy us ice cream and the rest goes into their college savings account.
This past weekend a rain/snowstorm hit southern California, but even in the slush we were determined to get our cans and bottles out of the garage and get our ice cream. While the kids played in the snow I gathered the items. I checked the recycling center hours and we were good to go. We loaded the large, sticky bags of recyclables into the vehicle, and the kids and I headed towards Sanchez Recycling Center- our favorite recycling center because they are local, kid-friendly, and help us sort the items- which is helpful because managing a toddler and a preschooler while sorting cans and bottles is a challenge.
Unfortunately, when we arrived the center was closed. I parked in front and rechecked the hours on my phone. They were supposed to be open, but the gate was closed. So being on a mission, I called a nearby center, no answer. I called another-they answered and said they were closed because of the storm. I called a fourth one, no answer. I left a voicemail. About 5 minutes later, I received a text message from them. They said they were open, but may be closing soon because of the rain. So I quickly drove to that one, but could not find it. The address I was directed to with Google Maps sent me to a grocery store. So there I was a car full of stinky cans and bottles, two young children, parked at a grocery store, in the rain, and no ice cream money.
How I wished I had the GotInfo community of registered businesses and users to ask ahead of time about such a thing before driving out. And actually, I pose the question to you: How many times do situations like these happen to you? When you drive out and get nowhere because of a lack of info. I think these situations happen quite frequently than we have been aware of, but it is time to change this.
So join the GotInfo community so that we can remedy this pain. By joining the GotInfo community now, you will be the first to know when the GotInfo app is released. In addition, now that we know storms in southern California disrupt hours of operations, we will make sure to get GotInfo Specialists reporting out from the community during these times. For now remember, I got info. You got info. www.GotInfoApp.com.
